Papi Chulo – Manly Wharf

Right in the centre of the hustle and bustle that is Manly Wharf Terminal, the Merivale Group has opened a new South American stint – Papi Chulo, to celebrate all that is glorious and insatiable about smokey-BBQ ribs and jazzed up ceviches.
Open, spacious and usually packed with hungry patrons, the restaurant comes alive at night with slabs of Papi Chulo’s BBQ Platter filled with ribs, briskets, bread and pork belly being passed around, curly fries dangling from mouths in between chatter and plenty of glasses clinking. One glimpse into the kitchen and one would usually see super-mutant sized king prawns being grilled, and a constant waft of its buttery and savoury goodness would emanate from the kitchen, carried by the gentle seabreeze.
The ribs are a must-have here. Unctious, sticky and utterly melt-in-your-mouth. A light and refreshing Prawn and Scallop Ceviche or a King Salmon Ceviche on the side and it is enough to delight the tastebuds of any person.
And to anyone wanting to end the evening on a sweet note – the Tres Leches Cake with Fresh Peaches and Berries was incredibly moist and light. It is great to share with friends, and will likely to end in a battle to the death with spoons. For others, the Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie with Vanilla Malt Ice Cream, Butterscotch Sauce and Macadamia Brittle would most certainly turn even the most weary adults into energetic little kids again.
