Revolver – Annandale

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”
I love funky brunch places (If I was told that I could only have either breakfast, lunch or dinner , I’d be happy to live off breakfast!), But they tend to be situated in highly populated areas where you’re more likely to find a $5 note on the ground, than you are in find a parking spot within walking distance of the cafes. So I was gobsmacked to see the abundance of parking around the revolver. Best-place-ever!
We decided to start with a few drinks. The two Wendy’s decided to go with what works best, Jasmin green tea and hot chocolate. The Jasmin green tea came with a cute little hour glass, which tells you when the tea is ready.
My mate KL decided that he would go out on a whim and order the Carnivale tea (consisting of Hibiscus, rosehip, grape, pineapple, papaya, lemon peel, mango, & coconut). We’re no tea expert, but it’s definitely a drink for the adventurous ones. The flavours were very interesting, a roller coaster mix of sweetness, rosehip and sourness. Definitely not to our taste. Better luck next time buddy!
After about a 15 minute wait, the food finally arrived. Wendy #1 ordered the ultimate cheeseburger with smoked mozzarella, old school pickles & rosemary salted lemon chat potatoes. The paddy was moist and the mozzarella was smoked perfectly. It may not be the best burger we’ve had, but it definitely has the punch to take out the “Favourite burger” award in the Everyday Eats Guide 2012.
Wendy #2 decided to feed her hollondasie addiction with a Eggs Benedict – with two poached eggs, organic free range ham, baby spinach & hollondaise sauce on toast. She kept to herself during the entire meal, so one could safely assume it passed. A+!
Before we move onto my dish, here’s a little back story.
Ever since WX started working full time, I started to tease her about my brunching endeavors. We would send her a photo on whatsapp and she would usually reply with …
‘I HATE YOU GUYS!’
However, when I told her that I was about to head to the revolver with out, she replied:
“OMG….GET THE BAKED EGGS!‘.
So I did. I ordered the Revolver big breakie with two eggs baked in their home-made beans, honey cured bacon, roast tomato, mushrooms, pork fennel sausage & toast. The dish was hearty, so hearty in fact I would have been happy with a little less beans and a little more mushrooms. I love mushrooms.
Would I return? Hell yea. Parking FTW!
